I am a Woman Aging

I am a woman aging.
There are no trumpets blaring
The Persephone who once burned within me
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxspeaks with a different voice.
Rage
xxxxxx does not become me
as I slip gently into middle age.

For gently is the mask I wear
as I am addressed as ma'am
and silently dismissed with a smile.

It is elusive
this thing
It is a secret that we share
I am a woman aging.
